Farmer's Markets in Malvern
Great Malvern Farmers’ Markets
It’s being run by local company Boffy Arts Markets which already organises regular Arts and Food markets in the Priory Grounds – they also play a major part in Malvern’s food and drink festival as well as the Christmas Lights switch on. ‘We want to bring a sense of occasion and fun to the farmers’ market’ says Steve Boffy. ‘We’ll be using brightly coloured stalls, using designs from an artist we work with, as well as banners which will decorate the area on Abbey Road. On some weekends there might be live music and we’re talking about having a community stall, run by different local groups.’
The markets will take place once a month through spring until autumn. ‘Visiting markets is a leisure activity in itself’ says Steve, ‘which goes hand in hand with a growing interest in locally-produced food. If you look at any successful market, it’s not only somewhere to buy the things you like but it offers a sense of discovery for all the senses, not only the visual but also for taste and smell. It must become a go-to destination, a place to meet friends, come and have lunch or be inspired to buy something to take away and cook at home.’
‘As a local company’ continues Steve, ‘we already work with many artisan food producers, helping to promote what they do. The market should bring more people into the centre of Great Malvern, helping to make it a vibrant and thriving town centre. Do please come along to the first market on Easter Saturday as well as in future months. We’re planning on developing the offer over time and would like to hear your ideas about what you’d like to see.’
The Market runs from 9am to 2pm on Abbey Road by the Abbey Gateway. www.greatmalvernfarmersmarket.com
