Cradley Church hosts 'A Herefordshire Lad' Talk

28 September 2024

St James The Great Church, Rectory Lane, Cradley, WR13 5LH

2.30 pm

A.E. Housman's collection of 63 poems, first published in1896, captured the hearts and imaginations of generations of readers through its expressions of longing and nostalgia for a rural past. Its themes of military service, comradeship and loss appealed particularly to the many young men called up to fight in the Boer and First World War, and to their families.

Taking place at 2.30pm on Saturday 28th September, Max Hunt, Secretary of the Housman Society, will give details of the less-well known connections between Cradley and A Shropshire Lad.

The event will include a visit to Harry Maclean's grave in Cradley churchyard and refreshments.  Tickets £10 will be available at the door (cash only), parking is available nearby.
