Admiral's Cafe Colwall : People living with dementia and carers
Admiral's Cafe at Colwall Village Hall will run between 11am to 1pm on the first Thursday of each month.
Open once a month at the village hall to offer free support, advice and refreshment to people living with dementia and their carers.
A similar café has already been running at the County Hospital. Its named after the Admiral Nurses employed by the Wye Valley NHS Trust, who offer expert care and support to families living with dementia. The cafés provide a quiet area for caregivers to meet and share their experiences with other carers, whilst having a free cup of tea or coffee, along with access to support and advice from a trained Admiral Nurse.
‘You can just just turn up’ says Marcus Allen who is helping to run it in Colwall. ‘If you have dementia, the outside world can sometimes be a frightening place. The idea of the café is to offer, somewhere to visit where you can feel secure and comfortable. In future months we hope to have a mix of music and perhaps activities to enjoy during the morning. The café is run by volunteers who have all been trained to help people with dementia.’
There is no need to book, you can just come along.
